The New Hartford Town Board has approved a zoning change to allow apartments at Sangertown Square. The project, proposed by Pyramid Management Group, offers two options: redeveloping a vacant anchor store or using unused parking areas.

Pyramid’s David Aitken cited the rise of e-commerce and pandemic challenges as reasons for shifting malls to mixed-use developments. Similar projects nationwide and at Crossgates Mall in Albany have been successful, attracting young professionals and older adults.
While some residents raised concerns about community impact, officials assured the apartments would be market-rate and follow strict reviews. Construction is expected to start in one to two years.
