Cow crying for her stolen calf
This mother cow cried for her calf all day and even at night, as all the other cows went to sleep.
This video was taken not long after her baby was taken from her for good and put in a small stall on the other side of the dairy farm. In this video, she is crying facing that direction.
Baby calves on dairy farms are stolen from their mothers immediately after birth, so they don't drink their mothers' milk. The mothers are left heartbroken and desperate.
Since newly born males won't grow up to produce milk, they are sent to slaughter within a few weeks to a year. It varies between countries and the type of meat desired ("veal" or "beef").
The female babies will continue in their mothers' footsteps and be exploited as milk-production machines.
