[email protected] is it legitimate
You should look at every emails suspiciously, particularly emails with links. I've received a suspicious email from [email protected] asking to reset my password using a reset code. So, was this email sent by Facebook or a Spammer? Watch this video learn!
First, there are a few tips to check whether this email is legit or scam?
When hover your cursor over a link in the email, you could see 1) Https, which is a good sign 2) Also, www.facebook.com is a good sign.
You could also log in to your Facebook account and check the most recent emails sent by Facebook. However, in this case, Facebook says it hasn't sent any security or other emails in the last 2 weeks and 2 days respectively.
Who then sent the "Reset Password" email?
Let's try to replicate this email 👇
Go to Facebook.com on a browser that you're not logged in and then enter your email ID but the "wrong" password. Now, you'll get the option to select "Forgotten account", select it. As you can see, Facebook send the same exact email from the same domain, I,e, [email protected].
Conclusion:
Someone has got access to your Facebook's email id and tried some password. Then, that person selected the "Forgotten Account" option. This let Facebook to send this security email with the reset code! So, this email seems legit but again, I don't recommend clicking on any links on any emails.
Good news is that that person doesn't yet know your Facebook's password. Bad news is that that person knows your Facebook's email ID and tried to log in your account!
You could let Facebook know about this false attempt by clicking on "let us know". But, I suggest you to check this link by watching my video "How to test a suspicious link without clicking it" - link in the description.
Finally, I think Facebook should add this security email Alert under its "Recent Emails"! And also should provide an option under "Recent Emails" to report this false attempt!
