Pitch Autopilot and Tuning- Flight Control Fundamentals - Section 1.2 - Rev 2
In this video you will learn a simple proportional pitch attitude flight control system and how to tune it to best meet competing requirements. Basics of longitudinal aircraft dynamics, trim, linearization, short period and phugoid modes, and linear analytical methods are also reviewed.
This is the revision 2, which includes a correction to the explanation of the modal coupling. There will be a third revision correcting remaining errors in the lesson in early 2025.
Errata:
1. Elevator direction is flipped in animations (oops)
2. Near 1:50, the angle of attack sign is illustrated incorrectly
3. The up front reference to the control system as a stability augmentation system is incorrect. This controller is best categorized as a control augmentation system.
