What if you DON’T want to do a pre-order? How do you set up your Amazon KDP and IngramSpark?
This is a scenario I don’t talk about often because it isn’t part of my strategy. But it may be part of yours. A while back an author friend of mine reached out. She had her eBook on preorder through Amazon KDP. She planned to have her print book on KDP and IngramSpark. She asked me how to NOT do a pre-order with IngramSpark. For a previous book, she had issues with the IngramSPark listing on Amazon not getting to readers in time and she only wanted the print book to release on publication date.
In this case, my initial response was to only set the publication date for the print book in IngramSpark. As I’ve talked about before in IngramSpark to set a print preorder (paperback or hardcover) you need to set both the publication date and street date as the same date.
Why can’t it just say I want to do a preorder check yes or no? No idea. Amazon KDP makes this super clear for eBook preorders.
Anyway, after chatting with her a bit I realized:
If you only want the Amazon listing for the print to show up on release day, then you don’t need IngramSpark for Amazon distribution. So don’t sign that agreement. Or, contact IS customer support and ask that all of your Amazon distribution be stopped. If you are using KDP for your books to be listed on Amazon then you never need to distribute to Amazon via IngramSpark. Problem solved. KDP handles all your Amazon needs, so no worries about issues there. Then IS handles only the wid distro.
Again, this is a solution if you don’t want a print preorder for your book on Amazon.com. If you do, then check out my other videos on how to set up pre-orders that I will link up here and below.
