Actress and social activist Yara Shahidi recently sat down for an exclusive interview with BLACK GIRLS BOND. During the interview, she discussed her groundbreaking role as Tinker Bell in Disney's upcoming movie Peter Pan & Wendy, as well as the relationship between art and social consciousness, and why she continues to ROCK!

Yara spoke with writer Glenda Smiley about the profound impact of BLACK GIRLS ROCK! on her journey and how being in a space of people who allow Black women to be their full selves was impactful for her as a 17-year-old and how she continues to reap the benefits of those who have been audacious enough to do so.

Yara also expressed her love for the character Tinker Bell and how relatable it was to play someone with so much to say, but not being heard. She went on to talk about the social issues referenced in the film, such as climate change, and how the director, David Lowry, approached these topics in a meaningful and authentic way.
