New pets in the Ryazan House of the White Stork - Issue 9.
A unique experiment to restore the population of the white stork is being successfully carried out in the Ryazan region.
In mid-April, a month ahead of schedule, a flightless couple Ruslana and Gosha hatched five chicks in a closed enclosure.
Unfortunately, the two younger ones died. But the elders grew up big and strong.
Let us remind you that last year the same pair bred and raised two chicks.
The good news did not end there.
On May 25, last year's graduate with a friend returned to the territory of the kennel. First, the couple walked around the area and then settled on a 12-meter support with a nest prepared especially for such an occasion.
Meanwhile, the family of Gosha and Ruslana, when the chicks were a month and 3 weeks old, were transferred to an open enclosure. In the new place, the storks adapted immediately.
A week after this event, two chicks flew from the nest for the first time when a person approached the aviary.
One landed on the roof of an empty enclosure. The second tried to sit on a 12-meter support with a nest, in which the arrived couple settled. But he was driven away by the owners and ended up in the floodplain of the Oka.
Bird watchers had to worry if the birds would find their way home.
Fortunately, the chicks returned, and the entire family spent the night in the nest.
Now chicks regularly walk around the territory, spend the night returning to the nest.
And that's not all news. Another wild stork has appeared on the territory of the nursery. First, he tried to recapture the nest from a recently arrived couple, and then encroached on the possessions of Gosha and Ruslana. The owners greeted the stranger unfriendly, and the bird was forced to retreat. But the stork does not leave the territory of the nursery.
