My good friend Dave recently bought this pair of hats via an auction site and I collected them from the seller for him. Dave was fine about me having a play on them before he came to pick them up, so...
The top 13" cymbal is conventional and on the thin side. The bottom is massive, heavy for a 13" cymbal and it has two extra holes drilled in the cup either side of the centre hole to let air out, which improves the 'chik' sound when pedalled.
For small diameter hats they generate serious volume and cut-through, and for smooth-edged cymbals (not Sound Edge) the pedalled sound is very definite and strong. Now I want a pair for myself.
The Signia toms need re-tuning, I realise, but I didn't have time to do it before shooting this clip. If I spend time and energy mucking round with the drums before recording then I lose my impetus and the opportunity passes. TuneBot session pending.
The Signia 5" maple snare is now the 2nd snare, tuned low and with a Remo ring on it to reduce overtones. Main snare is a Premier 14" x 10" parade drum. Heavy beast of a thing.

Out of shot top right is a Zildjian 20" Tam Tam gong (hits at 2:18 and 2:30).
Recording is very basic: a Tascam TR100 recorder out front, another on the floor tom side of the kit, about 1.2m from the floor toms. There's a small condenser mic near the ceiling on the HH side but it's not contributing much. So as usual its room sound only, no close mics. Compression added in Audacity, otherwise no post-production sound work.
Editing in VideoPad, for some reason the sound fades between clips weren't happening. I accidentally changed some tool setting. Never mind, it makes little difference.
