Smart cities face a path of “big project” obstacles. Yet smart buildings offer a scalable foundation for creating the smart city. Buildings in cities serve different purposes (offices, apartments, hospitals, schools, residences, etc). Across all uses, smart building infrastructure addresses the same needs as city infrastructure-- energy, water, trash, lighting, ventilation, connectivity, parking, security, and emergency services.
