Attempting to distribute and maintain organization among digital work created by a class of students can be a challenging endeavor. Google Classroom provides a system for educators to easily create and distribute working copies of digital files that are automatically organized into folders that teachers can access with ease. This tutorial demonstrates how to use “Efficient File Distribution” within Google Classroom. These technological solutions are beneficial to teachers because they allow for collaboration in solving the many problems that educators face while attempting to personalize education (Schaffhauser, 2013).
Google Classroom is a new application designed to help teachers utilize all of the functions within GAFE to create a web-based, environmentally friendly learning community for students and parents. After creating a “Classroom,” teachers can pass out assignments, attach multimedia to any lesson, edit or revise student work, and grade assignments. This can all be done without using any paper and only takes a few clicks of the mouse. According to Schaffhauser (2013), these technological solutions are beneficial to teachers because they allow for collaboration in solving the many problems that educators face while attempting to personalize education.
Effectively implementing Google Classroom into an elementary education setting requires instructors to have a strong background knowledge in each of the other Google Apps. In order for students to receive assignments that students are capable of editing, documents should be created within one of the many Google Apps and then stored in Google Drive. The comprehensive nature of GAFE provides educators with the tools to create lessons that are rich with multimedia, which “...help make concepts clear and memorable to children, taking advantage of the well-established finding that linked visual and auditory content is retained better than either type of content alone” (Chambers et al., 2008, p. 13). Due to all of the functions provided by GAFE, it is a valuable resource for school districts, administrators and teachers who desire to become more efficient in their practices (Robertson, 2013).
