Producing Pure Olive Oil for the Holy Temple Menorah
In 2014 the Temple Institute produced Temple-ready pure olive oil for the first time since the destruction of the Holy Temple nearly 2000 years ago. The process began with harvesting olives in a manner that would not allow them to become impure, pressing the olives while maintaining their purity, producing a clay vessel in purity in which to store the oil, and, finally, kindling a model of the Holy Temple menorah by kohanim, (Temple priests), trained by the Temple Institute's Nezer HaKodesh Institute for Kohanic Studies. A sealed clay vessel, filled with this pure olive oil, sits in the Temple Institute's Holy Temple Visitors Center in Jerusalem's Old City, where it can be viewed, ready for use kindling the golden menorah in the rebuilt Holy Temple.
