Ancient Abandoned Railroad Crossing from Seaboard Coast Line Era
This abandoned railroad crossing was built around 1969 during the Seaboard Coast Line SCL era of railroading in Sunshine State Industrial Park in Miami Gardens, Florida. You can still see the old wood cross buck and grade crossing here. Ironically, it is also full of symbolism because you also have a new advanced warning RXR sign as well as new block signals and 2 boxcars parked nearby on a siding next to the mainline! Nowadays the main is owned by the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority ( SFRTA ). It was sold to them by CSX in 1991 under the condition that they maintain track rights all the while being used by Amtrak and Tri rail mostly. This is a very busy area in Miami as it is where all the major highways meet also. It is known as the Golden Glades Interchange and it is where the Palmetto & Turnpike & I-95 meet. This industrial parks is also full of abandoned industry spurs. It is also where I filmed those videos where an overpass was placed in the middle of the railroad and also, where they're removing one of those railroads with the switch stand. There are no railroad crossing gates or signals in any of this park mostly because they are lightly traveled roads so the train conductor would always have to flag the crossings here. Fun fact, the only two rail freight companies in South FL are FEC and CSX as if there is no BNSF or Union Pacific or Norfolk Southern as sad as that sounds!
