Often concept art students treat thumbnails like it’s a bad medicine to consume only in the art class and nowhere else.
The situation is not optimal for learning thumbnails because they’re surrounded by other students that see their work.

I wanted to show my own thumbnails because these are REALLY useful when you’re creatively stuck. However I do think they’re only helpful if done with these three tips. If you use all your creative energy on creating a set of thumbnails then this will not work as intended.

When you start doing thumbnails remember that there’s a whole painting process after they are sketched on the canvas. You should not drive yourself to a point of exhaustion before the real painting process has even begun.

I hope this can help you to have one more tool in your idea creation process. And it is a process(!) you can have an active part in =)
