Instagram Famous Hike - Colchuck Lake
This hike is Instagram famous. Rightfully so, you won’t be disappointed. Colchuck Lake is located in Washington State's Alpine Lakes Wilderness and is an 8-mile round trip hike starting at the Stuart Lake Trailhead. It gets really crowded, so weekdays are ideal to avoid the crowds. Make sure to self-issue a permit at the trailhead. If you’re looking to camp at colchuck or beyond into the Enchantments, good luck getting an overnight permit - only a handful win the lottery each spring - so prepare yourself for disappointment or try your luck at snagging a walk-up permit. You'll pass through lush forests, alongside a roaring creek, and across boulder fields while tackling over 2,000 feet of elevation gain. At the lake, take in the stunning turquoise waters and the majestic views of Dragontail and Colchuck Peak. The ideal time to visit is from late spring to early fall when the snow has melted and trail conditions are favorable.
