Motor development reefers to gross motor skills, which are big muscle activities like walking, running and catching, kicking, throwing a ball and fine motor skills, which are more intrinsic hand muscle strength. These are things like object manipulation. Every child develops differently, but typically but the age of four, your child will now be able to hop, stand on one foot. They'll now be able to climb up and down the stairs using alternating foot patterns, which is one foot on each step with or without the hand rail.
They'll also be able to kick, catch, throw a ball and also, catch a bounced ball. In the area of fine motor skills, your child is now able to copy shapes like squares and circles. They're also able to begin to use utensils, so they should be able to eat with their fork and a spoon and the table knife with supervision, of course. They're also able to begin to cut. With supervision, if you provided them with a pair of scissors, they should be able to cut on a line.
They should also be able to complete simple puzzles independently, without your help. Lastly, they should also be able to copy capital letters. At this point, getting out the papers, getting out the pencils and trying to have them copy the first letter, the first initial of their name in capital letter would be a great activity at this age. Again, age four is a really fun age and enjoy it. Take the time to know what your child can do and encourage them to continue to do what they do and to work more at attaining higher level skills.
