As of June 26, 2024, no signs of life have been found on the exoplanet K2-18b. However, in June 2024, a YouTube video claimed that a scientist had discovered the first signs of life on K2-18b using the James Webb Space Telescope. The video said that the telescope's analysis revealed large amounts of water and gases that may have originated from life forms on Earth.
K2-18b is a sub-Neptune-sized planet that orbits a red dwarf star in the constellation Leo, 124 light-years from Earth. It was discovered in 2015 by NASA's Kepler Space Telescope. The planet is 2.6 times the radius of Earth and has a mass 8.6 times that of Earth. It orbits the star within its habitable zone, taking 33 days to complete one orbit. In 2019, the Hubble Space Telescope found evidence of water vapor in the planet's atmosphere.
