If you’ve ever wondered whether there was a method to think about a scale so that it can be used in more than one tonality, then I have great news for you, doing this is a lot easier than you may have thought.
In this lesson, I am going to show you how to take just one scale pattern and use it to grow your melodic reach fast using a few simple tips that can be applied right away.
Whether you have a lot of scales under your fingers, or you have none right now, the tips in this lesson will be a game changer. As someone who has worked hard to grow their knowledge of scales over the years, I know the struggle of trying everything to make a melodic idea sound perfect, and I guarantee that this lesson will help.
First, you want to make sure that you understand a music theory concept called “Relative Scales.” The relative principle allows one guitar pattern to take over the brunt of the work of multiple tonalities in music.
Tonality is the sound that we are looking for when we create melody. And, to target a tonality, you want to make sure your root note is the most prominent on each melodic pass when performing any lead guitar line.
If you are consciously aware of the position for the scales root, you will notice that the more that you target it and try to make it the most prominent - the more activation you will get for the tonality.
