President Donald Trump is signing his first round of executive actions at the US Capitol after being sworn into office.
Jason Miller, Trump-Vance Transition senior adviser, told CNN on Sunday that Trump will finalize and sign executive actions at the Capitol following the inauguration while others will be signed during his on-stage appearance at Capital One Arena the same day.
Former presidents and first ladies — including Bill Clinton and former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton as well as George W. Bush and Laura Bush — have begun to enter the Capitol Rotunda for President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration.
Former President Barack Obama is also at the ceremony. Former first lady Michelle Obama announced last week that she is not attending the inauguration.
Donald Trump will be sworn in today as the 47th president of the United States. The inauguration will take place indoors due to dangerously cold temperatures projected in the nation’s capital. It will likely be the coldest Inauguration Day since 1985. Trump is expected to be sworn in at the Capitol Rotunda by Chief Justice John Roberts.
In his inauguration address, Trump plans to call for a “revolution of common sense,” according to an excerpt of prepared remarks. Trump has pledged to issue “close to 100” executive orders on his first day. He also plans to pardon some January 6 rioters on Day 1, sources tell CNN.
Hours before the change in US leadership, President Joe Biden issued pardons for Gen. Mark Milley, Dr. Anthony Fauci and members of Congress who served on the committee investigating January 6.
The guest list today includes political leaders, former presidents and influential billionaires, including Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos. Country music star Carrie Underwood will perform “America the Beautiful.”
