Story:

Kikyo is filled with regret and anguish over not being able to help Onigumo, who sold his soul to a demon Naraku in order to be able to walk again out of love for Kikyo. Onigumo begs Naraku not to hurt her but he ignores and silences him.

Kikyo is so tortured that she decides to follow Naraku (Onigumo’s doppelganger) in hopes of bringing him back, after seeing Onigumo fighting Naraku off as Naraku wants her dead but Onigumo wants her to live.

After a few fleeting glimpses of Onigumo, Kikyo realizes that Naraku has pushed the heart of Onigumo down so much that the Onigumo she sees is nothing more than a mere shadow, a ghost of the man she once knew and admired.

She decides to leave, unable to stay for Onigumo anymore and refusing to stay for Naraku. Naraku threatens Onigumo into getting Kikyo back by their side and Onigumo begs Kikyo to come back and help him as he fears what Naraku will do.

It appears that Onigumo has won the battle and Naraku has backed off letting the human take back control over the body they share, or so Kikyo thought, in reality Naraku has been acting like Onigumo to trick Kikyo into falling in love with him and leaving Onigumo.

Kikyo notices the change and asks who it is kissing her. Naraku asks her of she’ll leave if it’s him and Onigumo. Kikyo replies that won’t leave if it’s Onigumo.

Naraku is angered by this and he realizes that from the start, he was the one who approached Onigumo because he needed a human body to be able to be with Kikyo. He only wanted her dead because she was in love with Onigumo and not him. The stark realization that he loved her just as much, if not more than Onigumo and that Kikyo loves Onigumo not him, angered him.
