The WILD (maybe a little hyperbolic) dangers of refillable water balloons are making the rounds on the internet today. You might think it has something to do with concussions, eye trauma, or ear damage, but not this time.

It's the fact that they use tiny magnets to hold them closed. And sometimes those magnets can pop out and end up inside a childs nose or intestines.

A post went viral about a little girl who went to the hospital after 6 powerful magnets "flew up her nose" while she was at the pool. To be clear, she made a complete recovery, but now magnetic toys are on the hot seat.

There are "parent groups" out there calling for a complete ban on magnetic toys (see magna tiles, bucky balls, etc) and I disagree with this for many reasons, but the main one is that magnets are MAGICAL.

Letting a child wield an invisible force and experiment with a fundamental force of the universe opens up the roads of curiosity. Educating the parents on the possible harms and dangers of magnets is where the efforts need to be focused.
