The Sheikh Zayed Mosque, is one of the world's Largest mosques and a massive architectural work of art, that intentionally blends different Islamic architectural schools.
It features 82 domes, more than 1000 columns, 24 carat gold gilded chandeliers and the world's largest hand-knotted carpet.
Featuring the Islamic Architecture of the world, This mosque was the vision of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founder of the United Arab Emirates.
The mosque represents the cultural collaboration. Even its construction was conducted by a skilled team of over 1300 professionals from all over the world.
You will be overwhelmed not just by the architecture but by how welcoming the mosque feels.
Situated at the center of Abu Dhabi the Grand Mosque can be reached by taxi or public bus.
You can also drive there with your car as you will find very comfortable parking.
The taxi will drop you at the receptions Entrance. The entrance is a large domed shape building with beautiful lighting. The entrance reception is a little far form the main mosque. And is connected to the mosque through an underground walk way. Getting down to the entrance area you will find a small mall where you can buy some excellent commodities and souvenirs.
To Enter the mosque you need to register for Online Access Pass.
You can visit the following website for registration. Where you have to fill up your visit details with your nationality, visit date and time. It’s a simple 2 min process, which will provide you with a QR of Access confirmation. You have to scan this QR at the security check to enter the mosque.
Make sure you were conservative & Loose fitting. Men are not allowed to enter in shorts.
And women needs to wear long sleaves.
Generally women are asked to wear the traditional rode known as Abaya and head-scarf. So don’t forget to bring your cloths accordingly. But if you some how miss to bring, you can buy one from the shops at the entrance.
Crossing the security Area, you will be moving forward, towards the mosque inside the underground tunnel
All the walls of the tunnel is decorated with the history of the mosque. The tunnel ends at the right corner of the Mosque.
Coming out of the tunnel the view will mesmerise you with its beauty.
From the outer side of the mosque look up to see the four stunning minarets which are proudly stand 106 meters tall.
Each of them is comprised of three different geometric shapes.
The upper portion is cylindrical, a design element from Ottoman era, The octagonal central part shines the design of Mameluke era. And the square base reflects the Moroccan, Andalusian & Mameluke Style.
On your journey through the marbled halls, you'll explore one of a kind treasures, including gold-plated Swarovski chandeliers, the courtyard's vast marble mosaic artwork and, amethyst and Jasper embedded Columns.
But the most noticeable element at the mosque is the collection of 82 domes.
The largest dome is located in the center of the main prayer hall.
The dome features pure white marble cladding, onion shaped crowns, and crescent shaped finials, decorated with gold-glass mosaic.
The colours of the walls, columns. and carpet are harmonised in a manner, that transforms the mosque into an artistic master piece and a symphony of colours & shades.
The main prayer hall houses the world's Largest hand-knotted carpet. the 5,700 square meter hand-crafted carpet was crafted by 1200 Artisans.
