I am using Cubase to record my music, but these principles go way beyond which DAW to use. I tackle the psychology of creativity.
The long and short of it is you need to keep the music you write when you are at your peak and ditch the mundane stuff.
You need to be in the zone, you need to stay pragmatic. If you feel you’ve lost that, then take a break.
Also, you need to get away from flashing lights syndrome where you get mesmerized and lose focus. It really is all about finishing the track and getting it released.
Sure, when you are young you have time to fiddle about in the studio, but you probably want to make it when you are young, so really life never lets up.
If you are reading this as an older person, then you have the advantage of both playing experience and writing experience. Why reinvent the wheel again?
Just finish what you started. You can then limit your creativity to bits of phrases to supplement the material already recorded or in your mind.
