How to Ping a Website or IP Address Using Command Prompt
In today’s video I’m going to show you how to ping a website using command prompt.
Pinging a website or IP address allows you to verify whether the target device or server is reachable over the network. It helps you determine whether there are any connectivity issues, such as network congestion, routing problems, or firewall restrictions, preventing communication with the destination device.
To get started:
1. Go into the Windows start bar, and type in “Command Prompt” and click on the “Command Prompt” application.
2. Once command prompt opens up, type in “ping”, and then the website address, or IP address you would like to ping.
3. In my example I’m going to type in www.google.com.
4. Now hit enter on your keyboard.
5. Your computer will now send a series of ICMP (Internet Control Message Protocol) echo request packets to the target device.
6. If the target device is reachable and operational, it should respond to each ICMP echo request packet by sending back an ICMP echo reply packet to the source device.
7. Once the pinging has completed, you can see how many packets were sent, received, and lost. You can also see the round trip times in milli-seconds.
And it’s as easy as that, pinging a website or IP address is a simple task to perform.
