Have you ever considered this: for the engineer tasked with designing a space mission, you are a problem. You are the most troublesome device they have ever or will ever deal with. With your unstable metabolism, weak memory, and a frame with millions of different configurations, you are unpredictable. It takes weeks to repair you. The engineer must worry about the water, oxygen, and food you'll need in space and the extra fuel required to launch you into orbit.
Solar cells or propulsion nozzles are stable, undemanding things. They don't defecate, panic, or fall in love with the mission commander. They don't have egos. Their structural elements don't need to give out in zero gravity and work just fine even when deprived of sleep. They don't need to breathe or have fun, nor do they need to take their kids for a walk in the woods.
Yet some still stubbornly believe that humanity's future lies in space, with some gigantic orbital structure or on the Moon or Mars, forever enclosed underground or in glass bubbles. Does it seem possible that all this could be desirable for a human being? We think not, and we will try to argue our conviction in this video, as usual, produced for you by the Insane Curiosity Channel. But don't forget to have your say.
