Train Stuck at New Railroad Crossing Due to Bridge Malfunction
Years Ago, I filmed this railroad crossing when they had just upgraded it by installing new crossing equipment like signals and bells and even gates which previously just had cross bucks and nothing else. This line is owned by FEC but they leased it to SCFE ( South Central Florida Express ) in some places you can still see the old school No Trespassing Private Property Florida East Coast Railway signs. The registration mark on the hoppers read USSC which is United States Sugar Corporation. This location is a few 100 feet away from the swing bridge over the Caloosahatchee River and this time it just so happened to malfunction as it was closing for the sugar train ... It had about 3 feet left to close completely but it just didn't make it. I wonder if it was broken on that day? The town of Clewiston is about 10 miles SE of here; Moore Haven is just West (on the other side of the river). Join me for some history and archaeology in this video.
