DENON DR-M44 HX Pro playback problem due to tired pinch roller spring
So this is a my Denon DRM 44 HX Pro showing a fairly major playback issue. I have since worked out that the pinch roller spring is tired and isn't strong enough to pull the pinch roller against the capstan with sufficient force to effectively 'pull' the tape off the supply reel. In the service manual there is a spring test which measures the force of the spring. I need to buy a suitable spring tester guage or just replace the spring with a stronger one. If you apply a little bit of force to the underneath the pinch roller mechanism the tape plays fine. Also if you move the top right hand corner of the cassette up in it's housing - the tape plays OK - I guess this is due to effectively inloading the pinch roller spring and allowing the pinch roller to move up a little more. All mechanisms are clean and not gummed up with sticky old grease.
