"It happened - they rocked but they never once dropped!"
Saturday 21st September saw the Status Quo marathon, "Rock Til You Drop", come to head in a manic UK tour crammed into just one day.
The challenge was to cover 850 miles playing sets of between 50 minutes and one hour to over 45,000 people at separate venues with two songs performed live on 'Going Live'. Norris McWhirter, ex-editor of The Guinness Book Of Records, stood by with a stop watch and rule book. The reason for all of this was to get Status Quo, one of Britain's longest standing and successful groups, into the Guinness Book Of Records once again, and to raise from box office receipts an estimated sum of over £200,000 for various children's charities.
When they finally arrived on stage at Wembley the last venue in their exhausting day, the crowd was ecstatic, and despite a couple of near misses including a mid-air near collision (when they came within 300 yards of another aircraft and had to drop 500 feet in seconds) the event was a massive success.
