1. Open your Google Doc: Make sure you're working on the document where you want to edit the text color.

2. Select the text: Click and drag your mouse to highlight the text you want to change color. If you haven't typed anything yet, just start typing and the color will apply to the new text.

3. Click the "Text color" icon: On the toolbar above your document, you'll see the "Text color" icon. It looks like a capital "A" with a coloured underline. Click on it to open the color palette.
Choose your color: You can either choose a preset color from the palette, or click on the "Custom color" option to create a custom color using the color picker.

4. Apply the color: Once you've chosen your desired color, click it to apply it to the selected text.
