Ignaz Friedman made his Vienna debut in 1904,under the watchful eyes and ears of his teacher,Theodore Leschetizky, playing the Brahms D minor Concerto, followed by the Tchaikowsky 1st Piano Concerto and ending with the Liszt E flat Concerto !! Needles to say, he was a huge sucecess. Here he plays Chopin's F# Major Impromptu which he recorded just before he made his legendary recording of the composer's Nocturne in E flat Op.55 No.2,on November 23, 1936. This beautiful performance speaks for itself. I heard this impromptu played a couple of years ago by a famous Chopin competion winner. It was very slow, very somber and very boring.I suppose that he thought that he had discovered great profundities in this piece that had escaped the grasp of other less enlightened pianists His Brahms was wonderful.
