Henry Shukman ‘Finally, I Gave Myself Up.’ Interview by Iain McNay
Henry has written several books, some biographical, some poetry, and some novels. This interview is based on his latest book; his autobiography ‘One blade of Grass.’
He takes us through his life; from severe eczema, depression and anxiety to finding meditation and Zen. He travelled for a time in South America and had an extraordinary experience on a beach which left him in awe but puzzled as he had no reference point to what had happened. Back in the UK after finding meditation and then Zen he started to work with Koans. In time he discovered the hidden treasures that contemplative practice and Zen can reveal. He now runs the ‘Mountain Cloud Zen Centre ’in New Mexico.
