Herpes simplex is a viral infection caused by the HSV-1 and HSV-2. While talking about the etiology, information about primary infection and recurrence is also delivered.

Then the mechanism of human immunodeficiency virus-1 replication leading to HIV-1 transmission and disease progression is discussed under the heading of pathogenesis of herpes simplex viral infection.

The clinical variety of herpes infection highlights encephalitis, herpetic whitlow, conjunctivitis, meningitis, and retinitis or retinal inflammation.
