The ST-II has 122 mm twin guns with a single damage of 440 units, on par with the IS-4, but less than other USSR tanks. As a base projectile, it is an armor-piercing projectile with a penetration of 258 mm, which is not bad in principle. The difference from the previous models IS-2-II and IS-3-II is that the special projectile here is not a sub-caliber, but a cumulative one, but not brilliant in armor penetration, only 310 mm.
The advantage of a cumulative projectile is that it does not lose penetration and is not subject to the rules of three calibers and normalization.
Now about the bad. Armor penetration is only 310 mm, which is extremely insufficient for combating well-armored targets. Our strong turret has a turret that can be penetrated by a 310 mm cumulative shell. When firing in a cycle, reloading is very long, which, coupled with poor accuracy, does not add comfort to the game. The hull is very poorly armored and will penetrate even 8 levels. The dynamics leave much to be desired, although it reaches the stated 40 km/h speed quite slowly, and the extremely slowly rotating turret is not at all pleasing.
The tank pays for increasing the firepower of its guns by reducing its turret rotation speed; now it is the slowest by this indicator. On the other hand, this allows him to almost always be ready to fire due to good stabilization of the guns. The accuracy is acceptable 0.38, but the aiming time is one of the longest - 2.88 seconds.
We remind you that double-barreled vehicles have three firing modes, on which their possible damage directly depends:
cyclical (single shot);
sequential (shot in turn from each gun);
doublet (simultaneous firing from two guns).
Maximum safety factor is 2500 units. The quality of the reservation cannot be called reliable, because gold can penetrate it into any projection. In the frontal projection of the hull, the driver's hatch has returned, the armor of which is 205 mm, so even tanks at a lower level can penetrate it. The VLD itself is located at a good angle, so the armor there reaches 320 mm, but the NLD is quite large in size, and “nines” and even some “eights” can penetrate it.
It is also worth noting the lack of bulwarks that the IS-3-II had.
The tower is more secure, but not without flaws. Although the gun mantlet takes up a lot of space, it does not cover the entire frontal projection of the turret. The nominal armor there varies from 250 mm to 280 mm. If you look at the figures for the given armor, then on average it’s up to 320 mm, so if the circumstances are successful, opponents will be able to inflict damage through the gun mantlet.
