#BPTB allografts have disadvantages to consider: Cost, Graft availability, Potential for transmission of infectious diseases, and Less biomechanical strength vs autograft (depending on sterilization techniques). With Bone-Patellar Tendon-Bone #ACLreconstruction the new #ACL is harvested from the patellar tendon that connects the bottom of the kneecap (patella) to the top of the shinbone (tibia). The middle third of the patellar tendon is used with a typical width of 10-11 mm. The bone graft itself will take up to 3 mos to heal. Return to strenuous exercise can take up to 6-9 mos.
