María, "La Molina", was a Spanish courtesan who served within the French court as First Chambermaid of the Queen's Chamber, thus being the favorite maid of Queen María Teresa Austria, accompanying her lady at all times during her sad stay in Versailles, but her stay at the French court would not be well accepted by her lady's husband, King Louis XIV of France, who continually mistrusted the presence of "La Molina" within the French court.
