WRAT is a screening test that can be administered to determine if a more comprehensive achievement test is needed.
Achievement tests refer to skills that individuals learn through direct instruction or intervention
Various Variants are available....WRAT -5 is the latest one
Purpose
The WRAT measures basic academic skills word reading, sentence comprehension, spelling, and math computation
This way it helps identify possible learning disabilities.
The test covers ages from 5–75 years old and takes approximately 30 minutes to administer.
Description
WRAT has alternative testing forms that is.. (tan and blue). One form is administered with the second form available if needed.
Both testing forms can be administered.
When this is done, a combined scored is obtained.
The WRAT has four subtests:
1. Word Reading ...which measures letter and word decoding through letter identification and word recognition;
2. Sentence Comprehension ...it measures an individual's ability ......to gain meaning from words ...and to comprehend ideas and information contained in sentences
3. Spelling...which measures an individual's ability to encode sounds into written form through the use of a dictated spelling format containing both letters and words;
4. Finally Math Computation measures an individual's ability to perform basic mathematics computations through counting, identifying numbers, solving simple oral problems, and calculating written mathematics problems.
