Understanding Focal Length: Trading Speed for Detail
A telescope with a long focal length and slow F ratio gives you just as much light energy in the image as a short focal length telescope with a fast F ratio. The long focal length telescope just trades off some speed for detail. And if you aren't confused yet, just remember: It's all about how they spread the butter.
