A commercial transport operator has received an order to move 3,000 tons of raw materials to a factory 1,000 km away from the source. The operator has available, at present, a fleet of 150 Type-A 15-tons trucks and another fleet of 100 Type-B 10-tons trucks. The operating costs of these trucks are Rs. 9 and Rs. 12 per ton-km. respectively. The operator has a policy of retaining at least one Type-A truck with every two Type-B trucks in reserve. It is desired to know how many of these two classes of vehicles should be
dispatched to move the material at the minimum operating costs. Formulate this problem as an LP model.
This case also involves basic level calculations of "operating/transport costing". So, watch the calculation of total cost very carefully.
