Cristiana Palmieri spoke with Andrii Alf'erov, director of DISSIDENT, and actress Viktoria Romashko, whose film is in Competition at the 42° Torino Film Festival.
Andrii Alf'erov shared the inspiration behind creating a film that tackles the politically charged history of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army. He discussed the challenges of weaving historical accuracy into a compelling cinematic narrative, working closely with the producer to achieve this balance.
Viktoria Romashko, who portrays a pivotal character in the film, reflected on how she approached the role. She explored the process of balancing her personal beliefs with the intricate layers of her character’s personality to deliver a performance that resonates with the audience.
DISSIDENT:
Oleg, a former soldier in the Ukrainian Insurgent Army, fought for Ukrainian independence against both Nazi Germany and the communist Soviet Union during World War II. After an amnesty deal is reached, Oleg is released from a prison camp and returns to Ukraine, where he struggles to find his place in a society at peace.
