Record deals are not what they used to be. It took me a long time to realise why I should stop trying to get a record deal and focus rather on that which was in my control. Should you sign to a record label in 2020? That's what this video is all about.

The music industry has been turned upside down by the Internet. Getting signed to a record label and getting a record deal is not the hot ticket that it once was. The majority of artists that do get signed make no money and...get dropped. Labels mainly look for artists that already have a solid foundation of followers and that are active and making waves on several social media channels.
Would I sign to a major record label? Well I would definitely consider it BUT...I would go through the contract with a music lawyer and a fine tooth comb to make sure I know exactly what the terms of the record deal are and what I would be signing away. Then I would negotiate! Distribution/licensing deals are far more attractive to me than giving away ownership of my copyright or doing a 360 deal.
What happens when you sign a record contract? This largely depends on the label and the type of contract you sign. The record label might sign you for a one album deal but then have an option on a second album. If you want me to make a video on the different types of record contracts then let me know in the description.
