What people don’t realize is that Rekordbox DJ 5 is its own standalone software. Which means DJs who already own a Pioneer DJ gear controller, and DJ’s who just bought new Pioneer DJ Gear, have the option to use Rekordbox DJ 5 for free forever, or Rekordbox DJ 6 thru the FREE plan…...which is also FREE FOREVER

Anyway, so if you bought or own a DJ controller like the DDJ 400, 200, 800, or 1,000. You’re good. And if you bought or own any expansion licenses for 5, such as DVS features. You’re good as well. They’re not going anywhere with Rekordbox DJ 5.

You can still use all of those things you paid for with Rekordbox DJ 5 at no additional cost forever. So if you don’t wanna upgrade to 6 then don’t.

99.9999% of all your DJ needs can be answered with Rekordbox DJ 5. So stick with it, if you want to.

This brings me to the topic at hand that Rekordbox DJ 6 isn’t as bad as I thought.

Here are a couple of things that make it worth it….if you choose to stay in the FREE plan.

Number 1

Rekordbox DJ 6 is completely free! Which means you don’t have to pay anything or buy anything to get the software.

You can simply go to the website, download it, prep your tracks, and even just DJ with just your laptop. And all the core important features of 5 will be present!

Number 2

If you wanna DJ with your equipment, you can as well, as long as they’re the latest Pioneer DJ Rekordbox stuff like the following:

So if you bought the latest Pioneer Rekorbox DJ Gear in the last 4 years. You’re fine. And some core plan features may be available for your controller as well for free.

Therefore, AGAIN. you are NOT required to pay a monthly fee for the software unless you wanna use Rekordbox’s new cloud service - which I think is still not worth it.

But what is worth it though is Number 3.

Number 3

Pioneer just released Rekordbox version 6.0.1; which now includes built-in compatibility with Beatsource, a music streaming platform similar to Spotify and Apple Music. And man, I LOVE IT.

Now before we get into it. You may argue. What’s the point of streaming and relying on the internet, when you can just download songs and keep them forever. And for that, I’ll completely agree with you.

Proper preparation will always trump any DJ challenge you’ll come up against.

But what about the situations where you’re unprepared. Where you don’t have the track the client is requested, or when you forget to download the latest hit from a pop superstar or when you’re not updated with the latest hits. What about then?

So don’t think of streaming as a replacement for downloading and keeping music. That will never happen.

Just think of it as backup and a tool that can compliment your way of DJ’ing.

Anyway, you can think of Beatsource as your online library of music. And what makes it different from other streaming services are the owners and what they will provide for the end-user.

The owners are DJ City, and Beatport, and so their whole catalog of songs, DJ Edits, remixes, etc. will be available for streaming soon.

But what is available now though besides the streamable library of radio edits are 2 groundbreaking things:

Number 1. The ability to download and keep streamable songs even when you’re offline! (I'll get to that later)

Number 2. The availability to use the multitude of specific DJ playlists available, made by DJ’s for the purpose of DJ’ing.
