A cyst is a hollow walled cavity in living beings which normally has some fluid secretion accumulated within. A sebaceous cyst is a closed sac which is filled with oily liquid or semi liquid material.
It usually develops on the neck, face, limbs. As these cysts are found to be painless and not found to be life threatening in most of the cases, they are neglected which results in them causing awkward self-consciousness, making life difficult for the individual after a certain point of time.
Reasons of Sebaceous cyst development:-
It is caused due to the secretion of sebum(oily substance which keeps our skin, hair moisturized) which is produced by the sebaceous glands of our body. Normally the sebaceous cyst starts forming when any of the hair follicle becomes swollen. As they develop slowly hence are not easily noticed in the initial stages.
Sebaceous Cyst Removal Procedure:-
Sometimes the cyst can get ruptured on its own causing drainage of the fluid which could be having a pungent smell or a very foul odour. If this happens the individual needs appropriate dosage of antibiotics, bandaging of the infected, fresh wound after complete removal of the fluid or pus from that area. If this is not done it could lead to further infections & complications.
If the cyst has become inflamed & irritated it is advisable to consult a qualified & experienced doctor as soon as possible. He/She will guide you on the further course of action. Going for a complete cyst removal surgery is normally recommended as it helps to get completely rid of it & is considered as a minor, risk free surgery.
In this video shown Dr. Prashant Yadav of Dezire Clinic India, is removing the entire sac of the sebaceous cyst with utmost precision. First, a proper mark-up of the area that needs to be treated is done. Anaesthesia is administered to the individual at the site of the sebaceous cyst. An incision is made carefully. Skin is split open just enough to enable the complete removal of the cyst. The incision which was made earlier is closed with one or two stitches if required.
Surgery Scar:-
There could be a minor scar initially which subsides with the passage of time & is not easily visible.
After Surgery:-
After the process antibiotics and some disinfectant ointments are prescribed. Most of the cases there are no complications or side effects. As this is a minor surgery, no hospital stay is required. The wound heals and dries up within 2-3 weeks & the individual can carry on with his normal routine.
