In order for a wound to heal efficiently, the skin has a sophisticated reparative process that must occur. In the majority of patients with chronic wounds, there are cellular deficiencies, or unhealthy cells, that can impact or stall this normal healing process.
The majority of wounds are stuck in what’s called the “inflammation” phase. This means there are non-viable tissues that are blocking the normal delivery of reparative and regenerative cells, like growth factors and enzymes to the site, as well as the white blood cells necessary to destroy bacteria and prevent infection. In order to move this process along, healthy skin containing all of the necessary components must be added.
