Raye dropped by the studio to chat with Letty about her album My 21st Century Blues. The single Escapism quickly climbed to No.1 in the UK and was her first Billboard entry. Breaking down the story behind the song she explains she just wanted to really show herself in her music. Music is medicine when you need to elevate and feel certain emotions, this song was made to help others. When asked about the difference between creating in Great Britain and creating here in the USA Raye explained, here it's the freedom of creativity. She aspired to become an R&B singer and becoming that wasn't possible with her previous label. Her label did not want her to create R&B until her previous benchmarks were reached forcing her to go the independent route. This album hit home for her because she worked with genuine friendships and that's just what 070 Shake was.
Raye refuses to be forced to be molded into something she isn't, and with this album, she is 100 percent herself.
