Buddy Holly born Charles H. Holley (Sept 7 1936 - Feb 3 1959) was an American singer-songwriter and a pioneer of rock and roll. Decca Records misspelled his name as "Holly" in 1956 and he adopted the misspelled name for his professional career.
His success lasted only a year and a half before his death in an airplane crash. Nevertheless Holly is described by some critics as one of the most influential creative force in early rock and roll.
In 1957 Buddy Holly & the Crickets were the only white performers on a national tour including black neighborhood theaters.
Buddy Holly has been given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame
