ANIME SPOILERS* In season 2 episode 3 of Solo Leveling Sung Jin Woo's dad, Sung Il Hwan makes his first appearance in the anime. He is shown in a dungeon in the United States and is soon taken into their custody.

Jin Woo’s Dad was tasked with killing Jin Woo. After Sung Il-Hwan was trapped in a gate for ten years he was saved by the rulers and was granted their power. In exchange for a way home he was tasked with assassinating the next Shadow Monarch. Soon after the rulers spawned an S rank dungeon in Tokyo, Il Hwan would discover that Jin Woo was his target but could not bring himself to kill him. Fortunately the rulers deemed Jin Woo as their ally especially after he killed Legia, the monarch of the beginning and king of the giants.
