Fighting for the city lasted more than two months. Since Breslau was away from the direction of the main strike, Konev allocated only one 6th Army under the command of General Gluzdovsky to storm the city. By February 13, the city was completely encircled. Only after capturing Berlin, only on May 6, 1945, the garrison of Breslau finally surrendered. Breslau became the last major city in Germany, surrendering to the Soviet forces.
