Heterogeneity of Diabetes Symposium: Day 1

To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the discovery of insulin, the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, part of the National Institutes of Health, and the Institute of Diabetes, Metabolism, and Nutrition of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research hosted a joint virtual symposium, “Heterogeneity of Diabetes: Beta Cells, Phenotypes and Precision Medicine,” on June 2–3.

This symposium brought together research leaders in both countries to tackle the challenges and opportunities presented by the investigation of the heterogeneity of diabetes and to inform on next steps for research in this area. Day 1 of the symposium included in-depth sessions on pancreatic and islet biology and treating and managing different diabetes phenotypes.
