The moveable alphabet is a brilliant language learning tool used in the Montessori classroom introduced after the sound games have been mastered and the sandpaper letters have been introduced. The moveable alphabet allows children to build words and be creative with language even before being able to write. It is often introduced between 4-5 years old.
Here is a brief video of the moveable alphabet we recently ordered for home use from Leader Joy Montessori for anyone curious about what it looks like.

The style of this moveable alphabet is D’nealian, an italic style alphabet appreciated for its legibility (it is easier to distinguish between b, d, p and q) and the fact that it is considered precursor to cursive, since the letters are slightly slanted, written with one stroke, and connect to one another.
