With Kerala witnessing a #MeToo movement in the aftermath of the Justice K Hema Committee report, the turning point has been marked by the downfall of the Mohanlal-led Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA). Founded for the ‘welfare’ of actors, over the years, AMMA has instead acted as a powerful lobby.
At least three actors told The Quint that there was 'no equality' or even 'a democratic way of functioning within the body' – so much so that any dissenters would be 'sidelined' and 'their careers would be ruined'.
