KCSB-FM and UCSB’s Center for the Interdisciplinary Study of Music (CISM) co-presented the area debut of AKOUNAK, immediately followed by a conversation and Q&A with writer/director Kirkley and UCSB Professor of Music David Novak.

Christopher Kirkley directed the film titled Akounak Tedalat Taha Tazoughai ("Rain the Color of Blue With a Little Red In It"), a reimagining of Prince’s PURPLE RAIN. The film portrays the life of Tuareg guitarist, Mdou Moctar, as he must face his rival in a music competition while developing a romantic relationship and attempting to maintain his relationship with his father.
